Lee Smith – Managing Director – Lee incorporated HLS in 2009 and has a very practical attitude to health & safety compliance. If its training, consultancy or acting as a Principal Designer the project is managed with a common sense and practical approach.After serving over 24 years in the Royal Engineers and working on construction projects worldwide Lee has the ability to provide businesses with quality bespoke safety advice guidance and training.
Lee is currently engaged in improving his portfolio by completing the NVQ Level 7 in Occupational Health & Safety.
John Slack – General Operations/Training Director – John has over 25 years experience in the construction field, having lead projects worldwide during his time serving with the Royal Engineers. The last 12 of those years he has concentrated his skills on training development & validation and Health & Safety management. John is a consummate professional with a proven talent for engaging students of all backgrounds and abilities to maximise their potential in their chosen field or on course. His professionalism and resourcefulness in training development is an excellent tool companies can utilize to adapt and tailor training and Health & Safety development to enable a more bespoke product to those individual organisations.
John is improving his personal development portfolio by studying toward NEBOSH level 6 Diploma in Environmental Management which enables him to branch out further to companies requiring environmental compliance training and advice to meet legislative requirements.
Gill Budby – Office Manager – A professional with exceptional organisational skills, an outstanding customer service record, a great attitude and she keeps us all in check and heading in the right direction. Gill is a model employee and has worked in Office Management for over 20 years and has been with HLS since July 2016.
Richard Oldcorn – Tutor/Advisor – Richard Oldcorn completed 26 years military engineering and construction service in 2007, having initially serving two years at the Army’s Apprentices College Chepstow as a Carpenter & Joiner apprentice and ending his service as a Commissioned Officer. Having held positions as a project construction manager for MITIE. Running his own successful pallet racking and shelving installation company for four years before moving into Health and Safety full time as a Health & Safety Officer (HSO) for Bureau Veritas overseeing safety during the construction of onshore wind farm projects across the UK as well as working as an external auditor with Bureau Veritas.
Richard has just completed his MSc in occupational health and safety management with Loughborough University in December 2017 and currently holds Grad IOSH status, but is working on attaining his CMIOSH”.
Fraser Park – Tutor/Advisor – During his time in the Armed Forces Fraser had a busy career which saw him deploy on numerous construction projects around the world working in varied and challenging environments. Since leaving the Royal Engineers Fraser has since spent time over in New Zealand where he worked on the Christchurch Rebuild Project following the earthquake in 2011.
Upon returning to the UK he has focused on advancing his career in safety training and is currently completing the National Compliance and Risk Qualification (NCRQ) Diploma.
Jim Fitzsimmons – Tutor/Advisor – Jim completed a successful 22 years military career as a civils and construction engineer in 2015. He started his career as a plant operator promoted within his trade to finally end his career teaching and mentoring Military civil engineering officers and soldier. Having held positions as a project construction manager and designer on worldwide projects he has always had a passion for safety. Having started his new career in Health and Safety full time as a consultant and lecturer he has gained experience and assisted many companies with their Health and safety management systems helping them gain achilles/CHAS/Safe Contractor accreditations and is a huge advocate for mental health in the construction and corporate sectors.
Shaun Benton -Tutor/Advisor – After serving over 27 Successful Years in the Royal Engineers, Shaun has gained extensive experience within other fields of construction and health and safety, being employed as a Operations Manager within a facility management company, a SHEQ/Project Manager within the Oil & Gas Industry in Africa and more recently as a Project Manager/SHEQ Manager in the rail industry.
Shaun provides the practical application approach to construction site safety and with his vast construction experience coupled with his instructional abilities made him an ideal candidate to join HLS Ltd over a year ago.
To further improve his portifolio and skill set Andy is studying and working towards acheiving the NEBOSH National Diploma in Health and Safety.
Tommy Lowndes – Tutor/Advisor – Tommy has over 24 years world wide military experience in the operational aspects of mechanical, construction and specialist high risk project management. Tommy has a flair for teaching and has taught to international students in Africa and Asia on safety critical environments in very challenging environments. Specialist health & safety qualifications ensures Tommy is equipped to give site specific, operational safety advice to delegates or consultancy clients alike.
Tommy is currently engaged in studying for a level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management.
Jim Printy – Tutor/Advisor – Jim completed 25 years’ service in military engineering and construction in 2011. From early beginnings as a site operative where he was involved in major construction projects in the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia. Latterly, in a more managerial role, he was involved in a number of bridge designs and building projects in the former Yugoslavia, a floating pontoon bridge across the river Tigris in Iraq and road and village refurbishment/reconstruction in various middle eastern countries. His last role was to implement Health and Safety Training in construction skills lessons at the School of Royal Military Engineering. On leaving the service he had the responsibility of conducting Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Awareness/Fire warden training for the whole of NHS Greater Manchester. Jim moved into a more focused role developing and delivering a range of NEBOSH/CITB/CIEH/IOSH and bespoke training for HLS and our clients.
